mk: add missing error handler on ./mk -fHEADmaster

when doing ./mk release, ./mk -f is called, but
there was no error handling.

The mk script does set -e, but this is generally
only a fallback and should not be relied upon.

So there already was error handling, but only just.
This change makes it more explicit, for reliability.
